On May 11, the CMGT and Mayfield Community Garden, Third Unitarian Church collaborated to organize our first training in 2024. We welcome and appreciate our new Tree Ambassadors for joining us to work together in creating resilient and sustainable communities across the City by equitably expanding Chicago’s Tree Canopy.
We started the training with touring the garden, had a delicious lunch, had a discussion about OUR ROOTS CHICAGO program, trees from our spiritual and religious views, how to engage with residents, how to request trees using the CHI311 App. We then walked around the neighborhood to talk and listen to residents and went home with free plants from the Garden. We are currently in the process to organize more training in the Austin neighborhood, thanks to all the connection we made through the training.
On June 15, CMGT welcomed our 11 new Tree Ambassador (TA) trained at Austin Town Hall. Our tree lovers and highly motivated TAs canvassed and engaged with the residents, and contributed 20+ new Tree Planting requests in the Austin neighborhood.
June 22, 2024 was a day well spent with fellow Tree Ambassadors who are committed to bring more trees to the Austin neighborhood. We canvassed, engaged with residents, surveyed, marked tree planting spots, and requested 15+ trees from the City via the CHI311 App. Thank you, Austin Garden Collective, for introducing us to two beautiful Paradise and Hart Peace Community Gardens, we enjoyed the blooming native and pollinator flowers.
