CMGT learning Circular Economy Concept at Plant Chicago

At Plant Chicago, on October 21, we learned so many interesting things about the Circular Economy (CE) concept.

Led by Education Manager Thomas Knapp, we had an interactive learning on the long journey and the Enviro-Socio-Economic impacts from the creation of water bottle to the landfill.

Life cycle of a forest

We also learned the amazing cycle of life in the forest. How every creature takes part in the effective, efficient, and sustainable system in the forest. We learned the clear distinction between the linear system practiced by human versus the circular, sustainable system in nature.

Elise O’Malley, the Circular Economy & Small Business Manager showed us how Plant Chicago offers support and networking program for small businesses. It is the place where small business owners can have discussion and work together to apply the CE concept.

Elise presented concrete examples of how small business can reduce waste by doing waste audit first and then come up with ideas to turn their waste into resources to save money, increase revenue by creating new products to sell.

After the workshop, we toured their facility that was a firefighter building, now home to indoor and outdoor Bee Hives, indoor composting and garden, fish tank that feeds the plants, chicken farm, and their market where they sell products from their small business network.

At the end, we all hope this could motivate our community to gain appreciation and inspiration from nature, implement Circular Economy concept in their life and businesses.

Plant Chicago will have free networking event for small business on November 7. Click HERE to register and click HERE to check out their other great programs and events.
