The Courage Project – Empower Our Youth

The Courage Project is an opportunity to serve our community while empowering our teens to find the courage to make a difference by exploring new, better ways to take care of our precious earth and environment. At the end of the project, participants will receive a certificate of participation and they can use the hours spent in this project (6 hrs + prep time) for their community service hours.

Project Timeline

Courage Project Meeting Dates Via Zoom

Meeting#1:      Friday, July 16, 2021, 6:00-7:30 pm 

Meeting#2:      Sunday, July 18, 2021, 6:00-7:30 pm 

Meeting#3:      Friday, July 23, 2021, 6:00-7:30 pm 

Meeting#4:      Tuesday, July 27, 2021, 6:00-7:30 pm

Activities in Meetings:

Meeting 1: (Each meeting takes about 90 min)

Introduction to the Courage Project; Icebreaker; Get to know the participants and go over the syllabus.

Homework – 1) Write a short essay on the topic, “What does “courage” mean to me?”  2) Look around your home, school, community and identify ONE environmental issue that bothers you. Think about how you can help solve this issue.

Meeting 2:

Participants will explore these topics: a) Qur’anic attitude & sunnah sources toward the environment; b) Understanding Islamic environmental ethics through the big ecological lens; c)  Importance of being a mindful Muslim and practicing a sustainable, eco friendly lifestyle.

Homework – Identify at least ONE environmental issue that bothers you the most and think about how you would provide a solution for that problem.

Meeting 3

Participants will share and discuss the essay submitted and the environmental chosen.

Homework – Write a brief proposal for the environmental problem chosen. Refer to the simplified research template given.

Meeting 4

Participants will share their ideas creatively. Mission accomplished!!!
