ONGOING PROGRAM

2022-2025 TREE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
Tree AMbassador training IN HUMBOLDT PARK NEIGHBORHOOD

Last weekend, CMGT Tree Ambassadors (TAs) were in Humboldt Park (HP) neighborhood to go canvassing, promoting Our Roots Chicago program, and offering new free trees to residents. Before we went out, we had a presentation and discussion indoor led by Ela, our new trainer. Our dedicated TAs have requested more than 100 trees in HP neighborhood since our first training there in July. We visited some trees that have been planted by the City, per our requests. Our next plan is to collect the data on those new trees using the Canopy Count tool provided by the CRTI (Chicago Region Tree Initiative) in order to measure the impact of our effort in creating environmentally resilient neighborhoods in Chicago.

PAST EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Camping at CAMP SULLIVAN

Alhamdulillah, CMGT had a great time at our camping at Camp Sullivan event.  We learned so many things! Camping 101 (setting up tents, how to start campfire and enjoy halal smores, afternoon hiking and tree identification facilitated by SUM. We also learned Astronomy & Telescope 101 guided by our amazing Astro Sr. Sarah Sarhan and enjoyed the view of Saturn with its ring. We ended our camping experience with exciting activity, Rock Climbing! The staff at the the Red Barn Camp Sullivan said, we were the best Rock Climbing team he ever had because we were so motivated in climbing the wall! We thank SUM, Forest Preserve of Cook County, and the Nature Conservancy for facilitating and providing us with outdoor gears, telescopes, and binoculars.
