PAST EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
Check out an inspiring interview on HaRLeM LiGhTs Podcast, Episode #012 with title, “The Power of Green Spaces”. It is the first episode about environment on the Podcast by Omar Manci with the first environmentalist or Environmental Organization, i.e., CMGT Vice President, Hamdi Hato, a Palestinian who grew up in Ramallah Refugee Camp. Quote, “The challenges and the circumstances overseas, living in zero green space is really hard. At the same time, it is hard to take it as a source of inspiration. I’m not an outdoor person but I just felt, yes, what I need to feel more calm, how can I enhance my mental health, my wellness…”

On February 22, 2025, CMGT participated at the 28th Annual Chicago River Student at NEIU hosted by Friends of the Chicago River. At our table and workshop, we highlighted our outdoor experiences with the river, the importance of river and riparian ecosystem from Muslim’s perspective, and our role in safeguarding the health of the river’s ecosystems from pollution including from plastics. CMGT is active in recycling plastic waste by creating art and craft with used plastic bags. We hope to inspire students to think creatively on the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) plastic waste.
