Maria is the founder of the Sisters of Islam group. On WhatsApp, the current members of the group are 163 sisters from around the United States. Professionally, Maria is working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Northwestern Medicine. She is also a Community Garden activist in her Bronzeville Neighborhood in the South Side Chicago. She has experience as a mural painter, a workshop instructor to teach art and gardening. Maria has been a long supporter of CMGT since its very first meeting at DIC (Downtown Islamic Center) in 2018. Additionally, CMGT was first launched in 2018 at the Sisters of Islam’s potluck picnic she organized.
