Celebrating Nature in the City
UPCOMING EVENT

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Chicago has one of the most spectacular urban waterfronts in the world, but it faces regular threats. Concerted efforts can protect the lake, keep it free and open to the public, and expand awareness of nature-based solutions for shoreline erosion. It is especially important to include underserved populations and residents who live far from the water in the grassroots movement, to be empowered in leading the efforts to protect the lakefront

In this program:
- We identify existing tours and create new ones to showcase all 29 miles of the city’s waterfront as one of Chicago Eco-Tour destinations for local residents and visitors from around the world.
- We expand and strengthen the coalition of organizations that protect nature along the lakefront.
- We develop outreach strategies, training modules, and programs for underserved Chicago populations to lead as the Eco-Tour guides and Lakefront Ambassadors.
- We empower Chicago residents to be leaders in protecting and increasing awareness of
- Environmental justice issues on the Lakefront
- The history of grassroots movements to restore lakefront’s green infrastructure
- Biodiversity, including native plants, trees, birds and other wildlife habitat
- We establish a system, apply for grants, organize public events like lakefront festivals and flea markets to collect donations and generate revenues to achieve sustainable operation.
